PMDD and PMS, in brief
PMS
Premenstrual syndrome is a set of physical and emotional changes in the days before a period, such as bloating, tiredness, irritability or low mood. It’s common, and for many it eases once bleeding starts.
PMDD
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder is a severe, recognised condition: a strong reaction to normal hormone changes in the luteal phase that can affect mood, relationships and daily life. Tracking symptoms across two cycles helps your GP make a diagnosis.
